Hurricane Forces Men's Soccer Match to be Postponed

Sept. 17, 2004

Contact: David Barry

CLEVELAND - The rain and inclement weather surrounding Hurricane Ivan has forced the men's soccer match with Marshall, originally scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 p.m., to be pushed back to Sunday at the same time. The delay marks the second time in as many weeks a Cleveland State athletic event has been affected by a Hurricane.

Though downgraded to a tropical depression, Ivan swept through North Carolina Thursday with strong winds and heavy rain. The remnants of the storm continue moving north, leaving West Virginia and much of southern Ohio with plenty of rain through late Thursday and early Friday morning. The rain is expected to move out of the region by Saturday, which should give Sam Hood Field enough time to dry out for the match on Sunday.

The Vikings sit at 2-1 after opening the home season with a victory over Duquesene on Wednesday. Cleveland State will visit IPFW next Tuesday, Sept. 21st before returning home on Friday, Sept. 24th to host Xavier at 4:00 at Lost Nation Sports Park in Mentor.
