Two Vikings Victorious At Oakland

Rochester, Mich. - Jakub Dobies and Berry Thompson combined for three individual victories as the Vikings dropped their second straight meet for the first time this season, as CSU fell 122.5-95.5 at Oakland.

"The men gave a solid effort tonight, unfortunately they just came up a bit short in the end," head coach Wally Morton said. "The energy level is starting to pick up after everyone recuperates from the hard training that we have been doing the past couple weeks. Everyone had decent swims tonight, and we are all looking forward to swimming against the defending league champions, UIC next weekend."

Dobies was a double-winner for the Vikings, placing first in the 100 free with a time of 46.64 and the 100 breast with a time of 56.89. He also took home a second place finish in the 200 free, just getting out-touched with a time of 1:42.48, which one of the better times in the Horizon League this season.

Thompson won the 50 free for the Vikings touching in a time of 21.32. He also placed second behind Dobies in the 100 free, ending in a time of 46.92.

The 200 free relay team of Mike Marsico, Keith Everhart, Deni Gasparin and Justin Hill was also victorious for the Vikings, placing first in a time of 1:25.18. Hill had his best 50 free split, anchoring the relay in 20.81.

Matt DiMasso led the divers, placing second in both boards with two of his best performances of the season, finishing the 1-meter event with 241.57 points and the 3-meter with 260.40 points.

Todd Winchell, Pierre De Waal and Zvonimir Androic each took home second place finishes for CSU during the meet. Winchell in the 200 fly (51.55), De Waal in the 500 free (4:40.12) and Androic in the 100 back (52.92).

The 100 free proved to be one of the best events for the Vikings, as Keith Everhart placed third in 47.41 to finish off the sweep in the event. Everhart also had a solid swim in the 50 free, finishing second with a time of 21.51.

The 400 medley relay team of Winchell, Gasparin, Thompson and Stephen Grove were the last Vikings to finish first or second, taking home second place honors with a time of 3:30.28.

Alex Cohara recorded a solid effort in the 1,650 free, an event that was not scored, swimming a 16:39.60 along with Graham Thoresen who swam a 16:28.00.

The Vikings will host UIC in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday, February 6 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Busbey Natatorium. The meet will also be senior day for the three Viking seniors, Jakub Dobies, Stephen Grove and Todd Winchell.
