After placing first in the 500 freestyle at the UC-Irvine Distance Invitational last week, senior swimmer Daniel Thomasson has been named the Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week. The league made the announcement on Wednesday (Jan. 11).
Thomasson paced an abbreviated CSU lineup at the meet on Jan. 7, swimming to a win in a field of 45 in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.73. The Sodertalje, Sweden native is currently second on the team in the 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyles and second in the league in the 200 and 500.
"What really impressed me with him is that we have been doing incredible amounts of training in the days leading up to the meet," head coach Wally Morton said. "He had an outstanding performance on almost no rest. He is in the best shape that I have seen him in since he has been here, and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do at the Horizon League Championships."
The Vikings return home for their first dual meet of 2006 when they host Duquesne and Xavier on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 1:00 p.m.
