INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State freshman Mark deSwardt, who won three events in a dual at Green Bay on Oct. 25, has been named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week. The league made the announcement on Wednesday (Oct. 29) afternoon.

"Mark's performances in meets are a result of excellent workouts and maximizing his potential," head coach Wally Morton said. "He is polite, hard working and considerate to his teammates. These are the characteristics that our best athletes process. He has improved greatly since his arrival on our campus and is just beginning to reach his ultimate potential."

During the Viking men's first dual meet of the season last week, deSwardt won three events and recorded a CSU all-time Top-10 finish against Green Bay. He swam the fourth-fastest time in CSU history in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:27.23). Later in the day he won the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.35) and just 15 minutes later touched out the league's defending champion to win the 500-yard freestyle in 4:36.78.

deSwardt and the Vikings will be in action on Friday (Oct. 31) when they host Canisius. The team travels to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Nov. 1.
