VanMeter Notches 60th Singles Win At UT Rocket Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team finished play at the UT Rocket Invitational Sunday, picking up three doubles wins and five singles wins against Youngstown State and Wayne State.

Joe VanMeter went 2-0 in singles play Sunday, posting his first singles wins of the season and notching his 60th career singles win. VanMeter is just the ninth Viking all-time to post 60 singles wins on their career, and is now tied for eighth on the singles wins list at Cleveland State. VanMeter picked up his wins in a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 decision against Yossi Dahan of Youngstown State, and a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Taylor Vane of Wayne State.

Benjamin Slade picked up his team-best seventh singles win of the season in a 6-1, 2-6, 10-4 decision against Wayne State, while Andre Mick (6-0, 6-3) and William Malm (6-1, 6-2) also earned singles wins against Wayne State.

In doubles action, the duo of Kevin Goth and Slade went 2-0 on the day, picking up a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 win against YSU and a 6-1 victory against Wayne State, while VanMeter and Mick also earned a 6-3 victory against Wayne State.

The Vikings will now take a week off from competition, and return to the courts at the ITA Midwest Regional on Thursday, October 22 in South Bend, Ind.
