Mostardi Earns ITA Regional Singles Ranking

TEMPE, Ariz. – Following one of the best seasons in program history, Cleveland State men's tennis junior Nico Mostardi has earned a spot in the ITA Regional Singles Rankings, finishing the year ranked 18th according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

This marks the first time that a Viking has appeared in the regional singles rankings, while Mostardi is the highest ranked mid-major player in the Midwest Region.

"Nico had a great year on the court, earning himself a lot of opportunities that he was able to take advantage of and capitalize on," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "He is one of the hardest workers on and off the court, always looking for ways to improve not only his game, but also ways to help his teammates. Starting next season with a regional ranking will be a great way to begin his final year in a Viking uniform."

Mostardi finished the year with a 24-10 singles record, including a 16-6 mark at the top of the lineup during dual match play. The 24 wins marked Mostardi's second straight 20-win campaign, as he is now one of 11 Vikings all-time with multiple 20-win seasons.

Earlier this spring, Mostardi was named the Horizon League Player of the Year for the second straight season and led the Vikings to their second straight #HLMTEN Tournament title. Mostardi posted a perfect 7-0 record against league opponents throughout the spring season, including a victory against UIC that clinched the Horizon League Championship match.

During the fall campaign, Mostardi was invited to participate in the Oracle ITA Masters and the ITA All-American Championship, and earned a national singles ranking at the conclusion of the fall season – becoming the first Viking all-time to appear in the national rankings.

For his career, Mostardi ranks ninth on the CSU Singles Wins List with 70 career victories, standing as one of just three Vikings all-time to reach the 70-win milestone as a junior.
