EAST LANSING, Mich. - Freshman Jorg Van Der Vloet posted Cleveland State's lone victory of the night, as the men's tennis team fell at Michigan State, 6-1. The loss drops CSU to 4-5 on the season, while the Spartans improve to 10-6.

"There were points in each match today that we should have executed better, and against a tough team like Michigan State you can't let those opportunities pass and expect to win," assistant coach Jay Tee said. "Jorg continues to play solid tennis for us and was once again able to take care of business on the court. Our No. 1 doubles team of Ali and Nolan also played some inspiring tennis, picking up our lone doubles win."

Ali Shabib and Nolan Marks, who have now won three out of their last four doubles matches, picked up Cleveland State's lone doubles victory at MSU with an 8-5 win at the No. 1 position. The other two doubles teams dropped close matches against the Spartans, Matt Ford and Yannick Goossens an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles and van der Vloet and Matt Kuelker an 8-5 match at No. 3 doubles.

van der Vloet's singles win came at No. 4 singles, as he claimed a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Michigan State's Drew Lied. Saturday's victory marked his fourth of the season, with all four coming in the last five matches.

Goossens had a close match at No. 1 singles for Cleveland State, falling 7-6 (3) in the first set and 6-3 in the second set. Marks also gave his opponent all he could handle in the first set of his No. 5 singles match, pushing the set to 7-5, but then falling 6-0 in the second set.

"Everyone is looking forward to rebounding against Case tomorrow, and working on parts of their game that had some weaknesses today," Tee said. "It will be good to be back on our home court and hopefully we can hold on to that advantage and come away with the victory tomorrow."

Cleveland State will return home to host Case Western Reserve tomorrow (Sunday, March 4) beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake, Ohio.
