Contact: Martin Rickman The men’s tennis team came away with some hardware, as Phil Orno and Ryan Hamning were able to take home a doubles win at the Indiana Invitational on Sunday. Seniors Orno and Hamning have played together for four years, and that chemistry paid dividends as they were able to defeat Gruter and Kendall from host school Indiana in the bottom half of the doubles flight. “This is a special doubles team,” head coach Brian Etzkin said. “There are not too many teams that play together this long in the NCAA and they have clicked, playing at such a high percentage in doubles. I believe that they can keep this going through the whole season.” Hamning continued his superb weekend, winning his last singles match. After falling in his first match on Friday, Hamning did not lose again, winning eight straight matches between singles and doubles. Junior Rob Fox’s run ended at the finals of the No. 3 flight with a loss to Western Michigan’s Blomberg. Fox went 3-1 in the tournament and lost to Blomberg in a tough three set match as he fell just short. Freshman John Haley recorded his first Division I win on Sunday over Tunis of IUPUI, winning 6-0, 6-3. “I was happy as a whole with how we played this weekend,” Ezkin said, “and I hope that we can carry that into next week.” 2009 Indiana Invitational Flight 1 Singles Flight 2 Singles Flight 3 Singles
