TULSA, Okla. -- Cleveland State found the going tough in its annual trip to the talent-laden All-American Classic as all three Vikings competing in the pre-qualifying round on Saturday dropped their first round matches and were eliminated from the draw. "This tournament is always a good experience for our guys because each match is guaranteed to be against a quality opponent," CSU head coach Brian Etzkin said. "There were some good moments today that we will be able to build on." Viking senior Phil Orno dropped a decision in a three-set super tiebreaker, falling to Illinois State's Filip Miljevic, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. It was just last week that Orno defeated Miljevic in three sets en route to claiming the "A" Singles Flight title at the Ball State Invitational. "This was a tough decision for Phil because he had beaten his opponent just last week," Etzkin said "The match was tight again but a couple of points just went the other way." The best match of the day belonged to senior Ryan Hamning, who fell in a three-set super tiebreaker to Washington's Derek Drabble, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 10-6. Hamining led the first set, 4-1, before Drabble bounced back, and then claimed the second set in a tie-breaker. "The quality of the tennis that Ryan played in his match is as good as he has played at any time during his time at Cleveland State. He faced a quality opponent and battled him for every point," Etzkin said. Sophomore Yannick Goosens battled in his match with North Carolina State's Dave Thomson before falling in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). The Vikings resume their fall slate this week when the entire team travels to East Lansing, MI to take part in the Michigan State Invitational from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 9-11.
