Orno, Fox and Goossens Win Singles Flights at Stan Drobac Invitational

    EAST LANSING, Mich. - Phil Orno, Yannick Goossens and Rob Fox all won their singles flights and Orno teamed with Hamning to win their doubles flight at the Cleveland State men's tennis team completed play at the Stan Drobac Invitational on Sunday morning.

    "Overall, I thought we had a very successful weekend with a lot of good wins," assistant coach Jay Tee said. "We played really hard and were focused all weekend and hopefully we can carry that over with us to the ITA Regional next weekend where we can improve on our performance from this weekend."

    The Vikings went 8-5 in their 13 matches today, finishing the three-day event with a combined 34-10 record in both singles and doubles play.

    CSU started today off by splitting four doubles matches with Orno and Hamning defeating a team from UIC to claim their flights title.

    John Haley and Goossens also picked up a doubles win.

    Orno followed suit in singles play, defeating Mat Nelson from Green Bay, 6-2, 6-3, to win his flight. It was Orno's second title in the last three weeks as he also won the Ball State Invitational.

    "Phil has been playing really well this fall, like a senior should," Tee said.

    Goossens knocked off Matt Clegg of Green Bay, 6-2, 6-2, to win the title in their flight, while Fox topped UIC's Dave Robare, 6-2, 6-0, to win the flight.

    "Rob played some exceptional tennis today and really all weekend," Tee said. "He had lost to Robare twice last season, but came out strong today and was really focused."

    The Vikings have one more event left this fall, the ITA Regionals which are slated for Oct. 15-18, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
