INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State tennis duo of Jorg van der Vloet and Ellen Folkers have been named the Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week, after leading their respective teams to victories last weekend. Folkers and van der Vloet earned the honor for the period of Feb. 18-24, marking the third time this season that a school has swept both the men's and women's honors.

van der Vloet helped Cleveland State snap a three-match losing skid last weekend, leading the Vikings to a 6-1 victory over St. Bonaventure. van der Vloet was one of four Vikings to pick up a singles and doubles victory against the Bonnies, while his 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles clinched the match for CSU.

His No. 1 singles win last weekend marked his team-leading fourth of the spring season and his second straight, as he now owns a 4-4 record during the spring schedule. van der Vloet's doubles win came with Matt Kuelker, as they picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 3 spot. The win marked their first of the spring season and improved their overall record to 5-2 this year.

"It is exciting to see Jorg getting comfortable playing high in the lineup - it definitely helps the team that he can consistently play at the No. 1 spot for us," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Last weekend he helped propel us to a win, and hopefully he can continue to do that because he keeps getting better and better every time he is on the court."

Folkers had an excellent weekend for the Vikings - going 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action - leading CSU to a 4-3 victory over Ball State and a 6-1 victory over Oakland. Against Ball State, Folkers picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles and then notched a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win at the No. 5 spot against Oakland, marking her first two singles wins of the spring season.

At doubles she teamed up with classmate Mathilde Orange, posting an 8-7 (5) victory over Ball State and an 8-2 win over Oakland, both at the No. 3 position. The two wins marked their third and fourth victories out the last five matches, as they now have a team-best 4-4 record this spring.

"Ellen was one of our big keys for this weekend, she was the only person to win both singles and doubles matches helping us come away with two big victories," Etzkin said. "She really came up big for us in a tight contest against Ball State, picking up a quick singles win to even the match. I am happy to see her having success in the lineup and look for her to continue to grow throughout the season."

The women's team will have two matches this weekend as they are set to host IPFW on Friday, March 1 and will then travel to Duquesne on Saturday, March 2. The men's team will have a two-week break from competition, returning to the courts with a three-match roadswing in Florida (March 9-12).
