CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Dan Singer was named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week after going 2-0 at No. 4 singles last week. The award is the first of his career. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (March 28).

Singer began last week with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Youngstown State's Brian Meek to help Cleveland State to a 6-1 league win on March 23. The Kettering, Ohio native then scored CSU's only point in a 6-1 loss to St. Bonaventure by defeating Jonathan Luce in three sets. After dropping the first set, 7-5, to Luce, Singer stormed back to win the second two sets 6-1, 10-8.

"Dan is having a great season as a senior," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "He has been very consistent, playing great tennis and that's what you want out of your seniors. Not only has he been great in singles, but he is really starting to understand how to win in doubles."

Singer also split to doubles matches with junior partner Brad Groleski. The No. 2 doubles combo defeated Ryan and Jason Trapp of Youngstown State, 8-4, before losing an 8-5 match to Andrew Hart and Dejan Stancovic of St. Bonaventure.

Cleveland State has two matches this week, hosting Walsh University on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Malaga Tennis Center before heading to Duquesne for a 6:00 p.m.contest.
