With seven singles wins and a chance at the doubles championship, the Cleveland State men’s tennis team had a strong showing at the second day of the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.

Led by junior Rob Fox, the Vikings recorded a win from all but one singles player on Saturday. Freshman Jay Jones continued a strong beginning to his career, winning his match over Basha of Western Michigan before dropping a tough three set match in the semifinals.

Fox rolled into the finals of the No. 3 flight, defeating players from Xavier and Indiana in route to a showdown on Sunday against Blomberg of Western Michigan. Fox, a 22 match singles winner a year ago, is looking poised and ready to take his game to the next level.

"Rob Fox is playing great right now and just might be playing the best tennis of his career," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "It is great to see him in the finals and of course it is always exciting to get wins against teams like Xavier and Indiana."

Not to be outdone, the doubles of team of Phil Orno and Ryan Hamning made their way into the doubles final as well, after wins over Mississippi and Western Michigan. Orno and Hamning continue their habit of doubles success, after going 23-5 in 2008-09.

"They are playing extremely tough competition," Etzkin said, "but throughout the weekend Ryan and Phil have persevered and their doubles are getting better every day. Hopefully they can finish strong and win it."

Hamning starred on his own too, winning both of his singles matches. Yannick Goossens, Chris Klepatz and Adam Perkins also won matches in their consolation brackets.
