The first matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. inside CSU's Wooding Gymnasium. The event will be a double-elimination format and will be wrestled to sixth place. Live results and live video ($) will be available through TrackWrestling and can be accessed by clicking here.
Athletes representing over three dozen schools are scheduled to compete. Seven Division I conferences will be represented, including more than half of the schools from both the Big Ten and Atlantic Coast Conference. Five programs ranked among the top 15 in Intermat's most recent Tournament Rankings will have athletes in attendance Saturday.
In the two Opens that Cleveland State has competed in thus far this season, the Vikings have posted 11 top-four finishes. Four different Vikings have won an Open this season, including a pair of freshman. Redshirt junior Nick Corba owns two Open titles in two appearances this season and a 9-0 record in such competitions in 2016-17.
Corba owns a team-leading 11 wins on the season, including three by fall, two by technical fall and two by major decision. Sophomore Evan Cheek has a 9-4 record and owns six bonus-point victories while he has not lost a match by more than four points.
Corba has placed in the top three at each of the past two Cleveland State Opens but is still seeking his first title in the event.
After hosting this Open, Cleveland State will return to action on the first two days of 2017 as it competes at the Southern Scuffle hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
