"Marcus and Rob did a great job in their matches today, and everyone else put out their best effort tonight in their matches," head coach Ben Stehura said. "We are still working on some things as a team, but we continue to get better from match to match, and hopefully by the time the EWL championships come around we will be able to put some parts together."
The Vikings were scoreless until the middle of the meet when Rob Michaels won a 5-0 decision in the 165 pound weight class against Edinboro's Chris Hrunka. Michaels ended the first period with a 2-0 lead after scoring two points with 20 seconds left in the first period.
Michaels and Hrunka battled through a scoreless second period, keeping Michaels with the 2-0 lead. Just one minute into the third period Michaels scored two points and added one point for riding time to finish off with the 5-0 victory.
Effner followed up the 165 pound victory with a 6-1 decision of his own, defeating Paul Paddock in the 174 class. After a hard fought first period the two ended in a 0-0 tie, with Effner breaking the tie early in the second period putting one point on the board.
Effner added on five more points throughout the next two periods, giving him the 6-1 final victory.
