Morgantown, W. Va. - Mike Mencini led the Vikings with a fifth place finish in the 141 pound weight class at the EWL Championship, as Cleveland State ended the season with at the 2010 EWL Championship at the WVU Coliseum Sunday evening. 141 After ending the first period down, 2-1 Mencini came back to score an escape point early in the second period to tie it at 2-2. With one minute left in the third period, Mencini got a take down to take the lead, 4-2. He went on to score three more points and won the match by an 8-2 score with the addition of the riding time point. Mencini lost his second match in the consolation bracket (Fall 2:42) to Owen Wilkinson of Lock Haven, and won his final match of the night (3-1) against Ian De Sol of Bloomsburg, finishing in fifth place. He battled through a scoreless first period, and scored an early escape point in the second period to take a 1-0 lead that would last throughout the second period. De Sol tied the score early in the third period, earning an escape point, but Mencini came back with a two point take down to take the lead with 32 seconds left in the match, 3-1 and would go on to win the match, ending his season with an 8-13 record. 157 In the first round of the consolation bracket, Carlo beat Seth Creasy from Lock Haven, 7-3. Carlo was able to take an early 2-0 lead, and expanded his lead to 4-0 in the middle of the second period. Creasy ended the second period with an escape point putting the score at 4-1 going into the third period. Two Lock Haven escape points and a Carlo takedown during the third period put the final score at 6-3, and Carlo won the match by a score of 7-3 with one point for riding time. Carlo lost his second round match in the consolation bracket, 12-4 to John Greisheimer of Edinboro, and fell to Donnie Tasser of Pittsburgh (6-4) finishing in sixth place and ending the season with nine victories. After a scoreless first period in his final match of the night, Tasser earned an early escape point in the second period to take a 1-0 lead, but Carlo would quickly come back with a two point take down to take the 2-1 lead in the middle of the second period. Carlo closed out the second period with a 4-2 lead. Tasser would even the score at 4-4 with 37 seconds left, forcing the match into overtime, where Tasser would score a two point take down, earning the 6-4 victory. 165 Michaels finished the night by placing sixth after falling to Adam Counterman from Pittsburgh in overtime (4-2). Following a scoreless first two periods, Michaels earned an escape point early in the third period to take a 1-0 lead, but Counterman was able to squeeze in a two point take down with one second left on the clock, to tie the score at 2-2 going into overtime after adding one point to Michaels' score with riding time. Counterman was able to score a match-winning take down with 20 seconds left in overtime to take the 4-2 win. 184 Michaels got pinned (1:06) in the second round of the consolation bracket, moving to the fifth place bracket where he fell to Derek Coffey of Bloomsburg (7-5) to finish in sixth place. Coffey scored an early take down, jumping out to a 2-0 lead but Michaels was able to earn an escape point late in the first period, bringing the score to within one, 2-1, before scoring a take down himself to take a 3-1 lead with ten seconds left in the first. The two would enter the second period with Michaels leading in a 3-2 score, as Coffey was able to score three points and Michaels two, starting the third period down in a 5-4 count. Michaels tied the score at 5-5 with an escape point early in the third period, but it wouldn't be enough as Coffey won with an 7-5 decision. 125 133 149 174 HWT
