Five Viking Grapplers Advance In EWL Championship Bracket

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - After quarterfinal action at the Eastern Wrestling League Tournament Saturday afternoon at Lock Haven University, the Cleveland State wrestling team stood in fifth but still in the thick of things as five grapplers advanced to the championship bracket semifinals.

CSU scored 29 points in the session but trailed second-place West Virginia (37) but just eight points heading into the semifinal round. Edinboro outdistanced the rest of the teams by piling up 52 points.

Rocco Mansueto advanced with a 6-1 win over Geoff Head of Virginia Tech while his brother Phillip Mansueto scored a 10-3 victory over Chris Spealler of Lock Haven at 133. At 141, Nick Boucher posted a fall over Blaise Mucci of Pittsburgh in 4:05 while Gerald Harris at 174 also recorded a fall, taking down Tom Anderson of Bloomsburg in 1:47. In addition, Joe Phillips stayed alive at 184 with a 3-1 overtime victory against WVU's Ryan Wilman.

The EWL Tournament continues Saturday night with championship bracket semifinals and consolation bracket quarterfinals.
