Ypsilanti, Mich.-- Ryan Riggs placed fourth at 125, while both Antonio Nicholson (141) and Rob Michaels (157) recorded five wins each as the CSU wrestling team opened their season at the Eastern Michigan Open on Saturday (Nov. 3). "This is exactly what we wanted," head coach Jack Effner said. "Our number one goal was to get mat time and experience and that is exactly what happened." Thirteen of the CSU's 30 wrestlers competed for the Vikings. "I am pleased with our performances," Effner continued. "We are working so hard in practice. It was nice to see another uniform competing on the other side." Other wrestlers having good days were Shaun Mitchell (149) and Benny Balogh (184), each of whom won three of their five matches during the day. "We're working hard and preparing well," Effner said. "Things are just going to keep on getting better." The Vikings travel back to the state of Michigan next Saturday (Nov. 10) as they are going to participate in the Michigan State open at 10 a.m. EST.
