The Cleveland State baseball and wrestling teams have come up with a way to challenge their student-athletes over the next 10 days. They are calling it the Horizon League/EWL Challenge. Each program has divided their squad into four teams for a total of eight overall teams (four baseball and four wrestling). The teams then compete in difference challenges with 10 points awarded to the winner of the event. The challenges are named for the baseball teams in the Horizon League and the wrestling programs in the EWL, giving the student-athletes a vision of who they need to defeat. THe challenge began on Monday, Sept. 1, with the distance run when the baseball team competed in the Youngstown State Challenge and the wrestling squad took part in the Clarion Challenge. Team 4, consisting of baseball players Ryan Franks, Bob Suitca, Tyler Wynn, Chuck Gasti, Jimmy Cowhy, Pat Shedlock and Jesse Wilson won the event to earn the 10 points. The second challenge, partner carries, was contested on Tuesday (Sept. 2) as the Butler/Bloomsburg Challenge. Team 6, which has wrestlings Corbin Boone, Corey Carlo, Chris Weber, Shayne Stewart, Kyle Mays, Jordan Keller, Marcus Effner and Danny Michaels won the challenge to take the 10 points and move into the overall lead with 15 points. The third challenge, the Wright State/Pitt Challenge, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3. It consists of running the stairs in the Wolstein Center. It is a big event as four teams are tied for second place with 14 points, just one point out of the lead. The challenge will continue with events from Sept. 8-11.
