Vikings Falter Late, Lose At Youngstown State, 82-74

Feb. 8, 2002

Box Score

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cleveland State (10-12, 4-7 Horizon League) could not overcome 21 turnovers and a career night from senior center Jen Horner, as the Vikings dropped an 82-74 decision Thursday night at Youngstown State (10-12, 6-5 HL). The Penguins snapped CSU's four-game winning streak and prevented the Vikings from moving into fifth place in the league.

Horner was nearly unstoppable, pouring in 17 in the first half en route to a career-high 30 points. She was 12-of-19 from the field and had an answer for nearly CSU run. Despite Horner's outburst, the Vikings found themselves down just two (76-74) with 1:18 left to play, following a quick 5-0 run. However, CSU missed three shots and turned the ball over twice down the stretch, while YSU's Heather Harris had four points, two rebounds and a steal in the final minute to seal the game.

Sophomore center Karyn Woloszynek (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) paced the Vikings with 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Junior guard Erika Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) also finished with 14 points, while sophomore forward Ashley Schrock (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Harris finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Maggie Johnston added 15 points and five assists for the Penguins.

YSU out-shot CSU 48.5-39.3 percent and converted the 21 Viking turnovers into 18 points. CSU held a 42-37 rebound margin.

Cleveland State is in action again on Saturday, Feb. 9 when it hosts Detroit (12-10, 7-4 HL) at 2:00 p.m.
