Klein Tabbed Horizon League Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Just hours before the Cleveland State women's basketball team tips off at Valparaiso, junior Kailey Klein was honored as the Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 29-Jan. 4. The league office made the announcement on Monday (Jan. 5) afternoon. Klein, a native of Cherry, Ill., is earning the award for the fifth time in her career and the second time this season (Dec. 22). Her five career awards are tied for the fifth most all-time in league history. Klein averaged a Horizon League-best 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games last week, helping the Vikings to a 1-1 mark. The 5-foot-11 guard made 17-of-32 (.531) from the field, 6-of-13 (.462) from three-point range and 9-of-13 (.692) from the free-throw line. In a 75-48 win over Buffalo last Monday, Dec. 22, Klein amassed 22 points, five assists and four rebounds. She came back with a game-high 27 points and three rebounds in Saturday's (Jan. 3) loss at Butler in the league opener. Klein has poured in 20-plus points in five of her last six games and leads the conference in scoring (19.8 ppg). She also ranks fourth in free-throw percentage (.848) and ninth in rebounding (6.1 rpg). Cleveland State (6-7, 0-1 HL) continues its Horizon League slate with three games this week. The Vikings play at Valparaiso on Monday, Jan. 5 at 8:05 p.m. EST before hosting Green Bay on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.) and Milwaukee on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
