CLEVELAND, Ohio - Shante Jones, a native of Dayton who spent a year and a half at Iowa, recently transferred to Cleveland State and will become eligible to play with the Vikings at the conclusion of the 2010 fall semester.

"We are extremely excited to have Shante join our program and get her back to Ohio," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She is a very talented and athletic guard who should be able to fill a role within our program and help us continue the tradition that we have started to build."

Jones played in 10 games as a freshman at Iowa, averaging 0.8 points and 0.5 rebounds per game. In her first collegiate game, Jones tallied four points, two rebounds and a game-high tying three steals in a win over Texas State.

This season, Jones played a total of 24 minutes in four games, averaging 2.5 points and 0.8 rebounds per game.

Jones played her first two years of high school at Stivers School for the Arts before competing at Carroll High for her last two seasons.

She earned first team all-district and All-Ohio Division II honorable mention accolades as a senior when she averaged 17.9 points per game, leading her squad to sectional and district titles. A McDonald's All-American nominee as a senior, Jones was named the team MVP and shared the league scoring title as a senior.

As a junior, Jones averaged 17.8 points per game, earning first team all-league and second team all-district honors. The team MVP as a junior, Jones was named to Tom Jenkins' Ohio Girls Basketball top-25 her final season.

She also ranked second on the team in steals as a junior and senior.

Jones led the area in scoring as a sophomore at 28.0 points per game, earning team MVP honors at Stivers High. She was also a first team all-league and all-district selection.
