    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State senior Kailey Klein (Cherry, Ill.) was named to the All-Horizon League first team for the third straight season and junior teammate Shawnita Garland (Charleston, W. Va.) was selected to the all-league second team for the second straight year after voting by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and select media.

    Garland was also named to the Horizon League All-Defensive team for the second consecutive season.

    The league office made the official announcement on Sunday evening.

    Klein, a 5-foot-11 guard, becomes the second player in school history to earn a spot on the All-Horizon League first team in three straight seasons, joining Audra Cook (1997-00).

    Klein led the league in scoring at 17.8 points per night, more than two points per game better than the second place scorer. In addition, Klein ranked sixth in rebounds (7.4), defensive rebounding (5.1) and blocked shots (0.7), while also checking in at seventh in offensive rebounding (2.3) and ninth in three-pointers made (1.4).

    The 2006-07 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and last year's co-Player of the Year, Klein totaled nine double-doubles this season, including seven in league play, while also becoming the all-time scoring leader in CSU history and just the third player in Horizon League annals to score 2,000 career points.

    She begins the league tournament second all-time in the league in scoring with 2,029 career points.

    Klein was even better in league games this season, averaging 19.7 points per game, more than three points per game better than second place. She also ranked third in rebounding (8.2) and free throw percentage (.836; 97-116), fourth in defensive rebounding (5.7) and eighth in three-pointers made (1.4), blocked shots (0.7) and offensive rebounds (2.5).

     

     

    Just the second player to lead the Vikings in scoring in each of her four seasons, Klein holds CSU career record for points scored, free throws made (580) and free throws attempted (735), while also ranking eighth in rebounding (707).

    Garland is making her second straight appearance on the all-league second team after averaging 12.7 points per game to rank ninth in the league. She topped the league in steals with 3.0 per game, making a league most 87, currently tied for the 10th most in a single season in school history.

    She made multiple steals in 23 of CSU's 29 games, including a career-high nine thefts in a game at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 29. Garland also ranked 10th in the league in assists (3.4), while also averaging 4.7 rebounds per game.

    The Vikings will enter the Speedway Horizon League Championship as the fourth-seed and will host fifth-seeded UIC in a quarterfinal game at 7:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center on Wednesday (March 10) night.
