Klein Earns Preseason First Team All-Horizon League Honors

CLEVEAND, Ohio - Cleveland State junior Kailey Klein has been named to the preseason All-Horizon League first team in voting by coaches, sports information directors and media from the Horizon League. The all-league teams were announced by the conference on Friday (Oct. 10) afternoon. "This is a nice honor for Kailey and it shows the amount of respect that she has in this league," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She is so versatile as a scorer," Peterson Abiad continued. "She can hit the three, drive to the basket, slash and cut and get to the free throw line. She is always moving without the ball to find open seams in the defense." Joining Klein on the first team were Milwaukee's Traci Edwards, was was named the league's preseason player of the year for the second straight season, Wright State sophomore Shey Peddy, Butler senior Lade Akande and Green Bay senior Rachel Porath. All five were named to the first team All-Horizon League team last season. The second team consists of Green Bay center Lavesa Glover, Valparaiso senior Agnieszka Kulaga, UIC guard Jessie Miller, Butler junior Susan Lester and Youngstown State senior Tiara Scott. A 5-foot-11 guard, Klein was a first team all-league selection last year after scoring a CSU single season school record 654 points and ranking second in the league in scoring (19.8). In addition, she was fifth in free throw percentage (.834), eighth in rebounding (6.1), 12th in assists (3.20) and steals (1.70), 13th in field goal percentage (.457), and 15th in three-pointers made (1.36). Klein, who became just the third player in school history to lead the team in scoring in each of her first two seasons, begins her junior campaign just 28 points shy of 1,000 for her career. The Vikings will resume practice for the upcoming season on Friday, Oct. 17 with the annual Viking Madness event at 6:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.
CSU will host Lake Erie in an exhibition game on Nov. 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center. The Vikings first regular season contest will be on Nov. 14 at Arizona State in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST. |
