Women's Basketball: vs. Arizona State
Nov. 14, 2008
There are no livestats or updates during the game from Tempe, so I am going to do my best to provide score updates throughout the night. WIth 15:56 left in the first half, CSU trails, 10-7, with the first media timeout. 10:27 to play in the first half and CSU trails, 22-9. Kailey Klein will be at the line for two free throws after this media timeout. ASU has been able to use their decided height advantage for some baskets inside ... and the Vikings can't seem to get a call inside Wells Fargo Arena. ASU has taken 20 shots compared to 10 for the VIkings. 6:17 to go and CSU trails, 28-12. Both Kailey Klein and Dominique Butler have two fouls. Klein leads the Vikings with four points, while four other players have hit one bucket for two points. ASU's 6-foot-5 post Lauren Lacey leads all players with seven points. Good news Viking fans!! CSU scores all seven points between media timeouts and slices the lead to 28-19. Shawnita Garland hits a key three-pointer and gets a steal on the next possession. Dominique Butler takes advantage with a short jumper on the other end. 3:20 to go in the first half. Not a bad effort by CSU in the first half as they go to the locker room down, 36-22. Back with a few observations and stats in a bit. Some first half notes ... Jessica Roque leads CSU with five points. Kailey Klein and Dominique Butler have four each, Shawnita Garland three and Stephaine Crosley, Janelle Adams and Natalie Miller two. ASU is being led by 6-foot-6 center Sybil Dosty who has 13 points - on 6-of-8 shooting - and a game-high eight boards. The Sun Devils are outrebounding CSU, 27-13, and have grabbed 13 offensive rebounds. The Vikings have 13 turnovers, but have also forced nine ASU turnovers as Garland and Butler have two steals each. CSU is shooting just 9-for-23 (.391) and ASU has hit 17-of-39 (.436) with many of the makes coming in the paint. Garland and Jessica Roque have each hit a three, while ASU has yet to hit one in six attempts. We are about one minute away from the start of the second half.
CSU has come out strong in the second half, forcing an ASU timeout with 16:56 left. CSU has outscored the Sun Devils, 11-4 in the early part of the half to cut the lead to 40-32. Dominique Butler has been great in the second half with six points and a steal. Following the timeout, ASU goes on a 7-0 run to push the lead back to 15 points (47-32) with 15:26 to play in the game. CSU is hanging tough with the 17th-ranked team in the country, down 49-38 with 11:16 to play in the game. Butler has eight points in the second half and 12 for the game. She has played the first part of the second half like a senior. 7:30 to play and CSU is still hanging around as the Vikings trail 57-47. They cut the lead to eight points (55-47) on a Kailey Klein layup, but a mix-up on the defensive end led to an easy ASU layup and the lead went back to 10 points. Butler has 12 points and Jessica Roque nine. Klein and Garland have eight each. Final media timeout and CSU trails, 67-53. The Vikings have battled hard all night and refused to give in. Final score ... Arizona State 76, Cleveland State 59 |
