CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State junior Kailey Klein has been honored as the Horizon League Player of the Week after averaging 22.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game in the Vikings three contests last week.

The Cherry, Ill., native is the second player from CSU to win the award this season, joining senior Dominique Butler who won the award on Nov. 24.

It is the fourth time that Klein has earned league player of the week honors as she captured the award three times last season.

"This is a well deserved honor for Kailey and I am extremely proud of this accomplishment," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She is a very special player with a scorer's mentality, but the part of her game that has impressed me the most this year is her passing ability that gets her teammates easy looks."

Last week was a memorable one for the 5-foot-11 guard as she scored 68 points in contests at 18th-ranked Ohio State, at Ohio and against Niagara to move into 10th place on the all-time scoring list at CSU with 1,180 points.

She began the week by scoring 30 points with six rebounds at Ohio State on Monday (Dec. 15). After going for 13 points at Ohio on Friday (Dec. 19), Klein came back to record 25 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead the Vikings past Niagara, 80-61, on Sunday, Dec. 21.

For the week, Klein shot .396 (19-48) from the field and was a perfect 26-for-26 at the free throw line.

Included in that total was a 14-for-14 effort at the charity stripe against Niagara, allowing Klein to become the school record holder for career free throws made (392).

Klein is the only player in the Horizon League to rank in the top-10 in scoring, rebounding and assists. She is second in scoring (18.9), ninth in rebounding (6.5) and 10th in assists (3.1).

She is fifth in the Horizon League in free throw percentage (.872), going 75-of-86 from the line. Her 75 makes are the league's highest total by 75.

The Vikings will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 29, when CSU hosts Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.
