Sept. 8, 2008
Contact: Greg Murphy
DRAPER, Va. - Cleveland State had three players shoot in the 70's in the same round for the first time in program history as the Vikings shot a 323 in the first round of the Appalachian State Draper Invitational on Monday morning at the par-72,5,910-yard Draper Valley G.C. "It wasn't a bad way to open the season, but I feel that we could have gone a lot lower and that we left some shots on the course," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "The course is not playing to difficult, but we just couldn't get any putts to fall. "There are a couple things that we still need to work on, especially our short games, but hopefully we can tweak some things and come back with a solid round tomorrow. The talent is there for us to be successful, but we just need to work on a few things." The Vikings got three rounds in the 70's for the first time in program history, led by a 76 from Katie Broere. Mallory Wyderka fired a 78, while freshman Brittany Keiter had a 79 in her first collegiate outing. The Vikings will conclude play in the Draper Invitational with 18 more holes on Tuesday (Sept. 9).
