Women's Golfers Finish Ninth at Bisons Spring Invitational

April 10, 2002

The Cleveland State women's golf team played in Bucknell University's Bison Spring Invitational over the weekend, carding a 454-466---920 in two rounds, giving them a ninth place finish. The tournament, held at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa., was added to the Viking's schedule in place of the Butler Invitational, which was canceled due to snow.

Senior Marlayna Jacinto (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Marion L. Steele) paced the Viking attack for the first time in her career, carding a team-best 39th-place score of 103-110---213. Freshman Nancy Bowling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lebanon) finished 40th--one stroke behind Jacinto with a 97-117---214.

St. Francis University, after trailing host Bucknell by five strokes through the first round, shot eight strokes better than the Bisons in the closing stanza to earn the victory. The Red Flash finished with a score of 343-334---677, three better than the Bison's 338-342---680.

Bucknell's Jess Hetrich won the individual portion of her home tournament, carding a 80-80---160.

Next up for the Cleveland State women is a dual meet with Youngstown State, to be held at Avalon South Golf Course on April 11-12. The Vikings will then host the Cleveland State Invitational on April 22-23 at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio.
