CSU Women Golfers Finish Second At Ashland All-Ohio Invitational

The Cleveland State women's golfers put up a strong showing in their opening match of the fall, taking a second-place finish at the Ashland University All-Ohio Golf Invitational Monday. The Vikings carded a team score of 337 in 18 holes at Brookside Golf Course in Ashland, Ohio.

Five first-year golfers took the top spots on the team. Sophomore Carma Rieck (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) tallied a second-place score of 76, only one shot off of the medalist. Rieck's showing at Ashland marks the highest finish and best 18-hole score in the two-year history of the CSU women's golf program.

Freshman Kristen Obush (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) followed Rieck by posting an 80 for a fifth-place tie. Sophomore Areial Chapman (Cleveland, Ohio/John F. Kennedy), freshman Mollie Porter (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield), and sophomore Victoria Kastl (Hinkley, Ohio/Medina) rounded out the top five Viking spots, carding scores of 90, 91 and 93, respectively.

The University of Dayton took the team title by shooting a 309, thanks in part to first-place finisher Brett Johnson, who carded a 75.

The Vikings continue their fall campaign at the Elon Women's Intercollegiate on September 21-22.
