BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Freshman Allie Sieradzki scored six minutes into the first overtime period to lift Cleveland State to a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green on Sunday.

The win moved CSU to 1-1 on the young season, while the Falcons slipped to 0-2.

"We are still having to battle through leaving everything on the field and today was a tale of two halves," head coach Derrek Falor said. "After the second half, I think we now know what it takes to compete. We made some changes at halftime and I think it paid dividends to how we came out and played. That's they type of intensity we have to bring for a full 90 minutes."

BGSU took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to a tally by Jessica Jarvis off an assist from Tracy Togba.

The match stayed that way until the 67:48 mark when the Vikings got on the board for the first time this season as freshman Chloe Fadenholz scored off a Vickie Havas assist.

Neither team could muster another goal, sending the contest into overtime where Sieradzki ended it just 6:15 into the first extra session. Havas tallied the assist on the game-winner.

Sieradzki also had a chance to end the match about two minutes earlier after getting by the BGSU keeper, but a Falcon defender was able to slide in and knock the ball off the goal line.

"Allie was very solid today, especially in the extra session," Falor said. "She did a great job of creating chances and putting pressure on their defense and that's what we need from our forwards.

"What doesn't show up in the final stats is the heroic work of both Jamie (Avona) and Val (Stahl) who were awesome today," Falor said. "They were phenomenal at controlling the middle of the field, winning 50-50 balls and their leadership really showed today."

The Falcons outshot CSU, 14-7, and also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday (Aug. 25) when CSU plays at IUPUI at 5:30 p.m.
