Women's Soccer Falls At Canisius, 2-0
Sept. 17, 2004 Contact: Brian McCann BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Canisius scored a pair of second half goals in a 14-minute span to break open a scoreless game and claim a 2-0 win over Cleveland State on Friday night. The Vikings are now 0-7 on the season while Canisius claims its first win to improve to 1-4. "This is a dissapointing loss," head coach Derrek Falor said. "We had a great first half. We played good defense, maintained possession well on offense and pretty much did everythign except put the ball in the net. "We were a different team after halftime and I don't know what happened. We had lapses on defense, didn't do a good enough job of spreading the ball around the field and generally played confused." Defending cornerkicks proved to be CSU's undoing as the Golden Griffins opened the scoring when Lisa Nicholas headed home a cornerkick from Marissa Ponzi at the 64:04 mark. Canisius tallied its final goal at the 77:24 mark when Lindsay Benson closed a run by pounding home a shot into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out. The Vikings were outshot in the contest, 23-4, with CSU netminder Allie Zajaros recording seven saves while playing the entire 90 minutes. Heather Clapacs paced the offense with a pair of shots while Amber Rasmussen managed the squad's only shot on goal. The Vikings continue their four-match road trip on Sunday (Sept. 19) with a 1 p.m. match at St. Bonaventure.
