Remaining Soccer Games Moved Off Campus
Sept. 13, 2004 Contact: Brian McCann CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Delays in the renovation of Krenzler Field has necessitated moving the remainder of the scheduled home men's and women's soccer games during the 2004 season off campus. The men's team will play the majority of its games at Mentor High School while the women will play at Foltz Field in Strongsville, Ohio. "It is unfortunate that we have to move these games off campus" CSU athletics director Lee Reed said. "I especially feel for our seniors, who won't be able to play their final seasons on campus and enjoy the improvements to the facility." "When the renovations to Krenzler Field are completed, our teams will have a state-of-the-art playing surface to play on along with a new indoor facility to use during the winter months. The short term inconveniences caused by the delays will be worth it." The men's team will play seven of its nine home matches this year at Mentor High School, opening the home slate against Duquesne on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Because of scheduling conflicts, CSU will play its home games against Xavier (Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.) and Buffalo (Oct. 15 at 3 p.m.) at Lost Nation Park in Mentor, Ohio. The only women's contest that will not be played at Foltz Field in Strongsville will be the Oct. 17 meeting with Youngstown State which will be played as part of a doubleheader with the men's team at Mentor High School. The men play Loyola at 12 noon followed by the women at 3:00 p.m. Planned improvements to Krenzler Field, which will cost $2.2 million, include the addition of an all-purpose FieldTurf playing surface and a removable air-supported dome that will cover it during the winter months. FieldTurf, a revolutionary playing surface that combines the properties of natural grass with the durability of artificial turf, has been installed on almost 1,000 playing surfaces in 20 countries around the world. It is currently in use in over half of the National Football League stadiums and by almost 50 NCAA Division I institutions. It has been approved for play by FIFA, the world governing body for soccer, with some of the top professional teams around the world currently practicing and playing on it. The removable dome, a product of Yeadon Domes, will cover the entire length of Krenzler Field, approximately 94,000 square feet, with a 60-foot ceiling. It will be made of a heavy-duty vinyl coated flame-resistant polyester architectural fabric. Yeadon Domes has constructed over 700 domes that are in use in the United States, Canada and seven other countries. 2004 CSU Women's Soccer Home Schedule Matches To Be Played At Strongsville's Foltz Field Aug. 27 Kent State, 7:00 p.m. Sept. 5 Duquesne, 7:00 p.m. Sept. 10 South Alabama, 7:00 p.m. Sept. 12 IUPUI, 12 Noon Oct. 1 Bowling Green, 7:00 p.m. Oct. 3 UW-Milwaukee, 12 Noon Oct. 6 Wright State, 7:00 p.m. Oct. 31 Loyola, 1:00 p.m. Match To Be Played At A Mentor High School Oct. 17 Youngstown State, 3:00 p.m.
