Vikings Face Robert Morris in Non-Conference Doubleheader


CLEVELAND -- After opening Horizon League play last weekend, Cleveland State returns to non-conference action on Wednesday (March 27) when it faces Robert Morris at the North Athletic Complex. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.

The Vikings, who are currently 6-19 on the season, opened Horizon League play last weekend at UIC with the Flames taking all three of the games in the series.

This will mark the third and fourth games of the season between Cleveland State and Robert Morris as they met earlier this season at the Liberty Softball Classic. In the first game on March 2, Robert Morris jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then held off a Vikings comeback to post a 6-4 victory. A day later, Cleveland State turned the tables on the Colonials with an 11-8 victory as Kelly Hysong had three hits and drove in four runs. Aly Packish and Alyssa Rose also contributed two hits and two RBIs each to the Vikings victory.

Hysong, who leads the Horizon League with six home runs, tops the Vikings with a .333 batting average. Additionally, she also tops the team in runs scored (12), hits (31), RBIs (16), total bases (59) and slugging percentage (.634).

Riley Ries is the Vikings other regular who is hitting above .300 on the season as she currently carries a .304 batting average. Ries shares the team lead with Hysong with eight doubles and leads Cleveland State with a .430 on-base percentage.

Rose, who is batting .400 in the last six games, has raised her season average to .290 overall. She is third on the team with 18 hits and also has nine runs scored and has driven in four runs on the season.

Lindsay Ward, who had two hits and two RBIs in the series against UIC, is third on the team with 10 runs runs scored and leads the Vikings with five stolen bases.

Hanna Griffin, who pitched a complete game in the series finale against UIC, is 4-8 overall on the year and has a 5.37 earned run average.

Hysong, who has started 11 games in the circle, has a 2-7 record and a 5.91 ERA on the year.
