CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will host Wright State in a crucial series as the Vikings conclude the home portion of their schedule beginning on Friday (April 26) at Viking Field. The Vikings and Raiders will play a single game on Friday and conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday (April 27).
The Vikings are currently two games behind Wright State in the race for the final spot in the Horizon League Tournament. The Vikings enter weekend play with a 5-13 record in the Horizon League, while Wright State currently has a 7-11 league record. Four teams are battling for the final postseason spot as Oakland has a 7-13 Horizon League record and Green Bay is 6-12 in the league.
Cleveland State, which is 12-30 overall, dropped a pair of heartbreaking decisions to Oakland on Wednesday. The Grizzlies posted a 6-5 win in nine innings in game one and then captured game two 4-3 in eight innings. Riley Ries, Lindsay Ward and Mackenzie Tucker each had three hits in the doubleheader to lead the Vikings.
The Vikings are 4-5 at home this season, which included a three-game sweep of Green Bay in early April.
Kelly Hysong and Ries have been the leaders offensively for Cleveland State. Hysong leads the Vikings with a .327 batting average, 14 doubles and 10 home runs, while Ries is batting .320 and leads the team with 25 RBIs and a .411 on-base percentage.
Mackenzie Tucker is batting .429 over the last nine games with a double and a RBI, while Lindsay Ward is batting .286 over the past nine games with a home run. Aly Packish has also performed well in the Vikings in the last three series with a .276 batting average.
Hysong and Hanna Griffin lead the Vikings in the circle all season long. Hysong has a 6-11 overall record and a 3.88 ERA, while Griffin has pitched to a 6-15 record and a 4.42 earned run average.
On Saturday, the Cleveland State players will be wearing gold shoelaces as it supports the Go4theGoal Foundation to help children battling cancer.
