Hysong Named Second Team All-Horizon League

INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State's Kelly Hysong has been named to the 2019 All-Horizon League team as selected by the league head coaches announced on Tuesday.

Hysong was selected Second Team All-Horizon League after a standout junior season.

She is currently ranked second in the Horizon League with 12 home runs and 16 doubles. Hysong is also ranked third in the league with a .646 slugging percentage and fourth with 59 hits.

Hysong finished the season with a team-leading .331 batting average and also topped the team with 30 RBIs. Additionally, she led the team with 14 multiple-hit games and was second on the squad with seven multiple-RBI contests.

Hysong was selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week on March 12.

Horizon League Player of the Year Kayla Wedl of UIC led the first team honorees. Joining her on the first team was Courtney Gilbert, Jordan Manno, Ashley Mauser and Liz Murphy of Detroit Mercy, McKenzie Loge of IUPUI, Morgan Bihun of Green Bay, Raidyn Johnson of Wright State, Kelsie Swanson of Oakland, Ava Lawson of Northern Kentucky and Skylee James and Lexi Watts of UIC.

The second team was comprised of Hysong, Mandy Dallas and Delaney Thompson of IUPUI, Josie Frazier and Taylor Ginther of Northern Kentucky, Jamie Squires of Oakland, Alyssa Griman and Cassie Kaelber of UIC, Madison Hartman and Rebekah Lenos of Wright State and Lexi Zappitelli and Addy Jarvis of Youngstown State.

McKenna Tanguay of Detroit Mercy, Lexi Lucas and Jaida Speth of IUPUI, Lauren Griffith of Oakland, Schyler Ek and Tara McElligott of UIC, Hartman of Wright State and Grace Cea and Jarvis of Youngstown State comprised the All-Freshman team. 

Mauser was named the Pitcher of the Year, while Jarvis was selected as the Freshman of the Year. John Conway of Detroit Mercy was selected as the Coach of the Year.
