GREENSBORO, N.C. - Amanda Macenko threw a shutout for the second consecutive day, allowing just three hits and striking out a season-high 12 batters as Cleveland State improved to 3-0 this year, defeating Marylan-Baltimore County, 1-0 on Saturday morning at the UNC-Greensboro Spartan Classic.

Macenko, who set a CSU single season record with 26 wins a year ago, improved to 2-0 on the young season. She has now thrown 13 scoreless innings this year.

"Amanda was impressive again this morning," CSU head coach Angie Nicholson said. "We weren't playing in the best of conditions yet she remained focused. She was able to do a great job of hitting her locations and changing speeds, evidence of which was her strikeout total."

The Vikings, who were limited to just three hits in the contest, scored their only run in the fifth when with two out Jessica Burt send a screaming line drive to right field that was misplayed for a three-base error. Whitney Willard followed with a base hit off the glove of Retriever pitcher Ashley Gray to score the run.

Gray was the loser after allowing just the one unearned run in six innings. She struck out five and walked just one.

The Vikings had a pair of chances to score runs

In the first, Willard walked, was sacrificed to second and stole third with one out but a groundout and a strikeout stranded her.

In the fourth, Haley Keller tripled with one out but a ground out and strikeout again left the her at third.

Cleveland State improved to 3-0 in the tourney and will close out play on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. against Central Michigan.
