KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Warmed by the south Florida weather, the Viking bats came alive today to the tune of 28 runs and 23 hits a Cleveland State won a pair of games in five innings each at the Rebel Games, defeating St. Peters. 16-0 and Lafayette, 12-2.

The Vikings improve to 12-7 on the year.

"Boy were we ready to hit the ball today," CSU head coach Angie Nicholson said. "We were really zoned in and focused and weren't going to repeat the problems that led to a loss the other day.

"When we hit the ball like we can, this is a devastating lineup from top to bottom. I was especially encouraged because we continue to do a nice job running the bases and with such a young team, that is something that you can't take for granted.

Junior Jessica Burt led the offensive charge in the first game, going two-for-four with a pair of runs scored and five RBI. She capped off a seven run fourth inning by drilling a bases loaded double down the right field line to score three.

Freshman Tess Sito went three-for-three with a walk, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. She hit her team-leading eighth home run of the year with a runner on as part of a five-run CSU second inning that put the Vikings ahead, 7-0. She also recorded her team-high 16th stolen base of the year.

Freshman Dara Toman drove in a pair of runs on a fourth inning home run, her fifth homer of the year. She alsoi has 19 RBIs to share the team lead with Sito.

Junior Katelyn Ciminelli went three-for-three with a pair of runs scored while Mimi Mahon, Megan Bashak and Alicia Nichols each scored twice.

Amanda Macenko was the Viking starter in the circle, striking out five of the seven batters she faced in two innings. She gave way to Brandy Holmes in the third and Holmes completed the game, allowing just one hit and a walk while striking out three in three innings of work. She improved to 2-0 on the year.

Originally scheduled to play Farleigh Dickinson in the other game, CSU took on Lafayette instead when Farleigh Dickinson had travel problems. It didn't matter who the opponent was as Mimi Mahon went three-for-three, being just a single away from hitting for the cycle, and driving in a school-record tying six runs.

Mahon, who only came to the plate three times, had a three-run homer to right field as part of a four-run CSU first, added an RBI double to right center in a three-run third and finished her day with a two-run triple to right field in the four-run CSU fourth inning.

"Mimi worked some things out at the plate and really hit the ball hard today," Nicholson said. "That's good because she had struggled a little bit during the early part of the year.

Macenko went the distance for CSU in the nightcap, allowing two unearned runs on five hits. She struck out five and walked three to improve to 9-7. The win was her school record 89th career victory.

"Amanda could have easily gotten the win in both games today but I wanted to give some innings to Brandy (Holmes) and let Amanda rest a little," Nicholson said. "She was real sharp in both games and was very confident in the circle."

Mahon went four-for-five in the doubleheader with five runs scored an seven RBI while Ciminelli (4-6) and Burt (4-8) each had four hits on the day.

Sito went four-for-six to extend her hitting streak to 18 games.

Cleveland State will take Tuesday off before resuming play in the Rebel Games on Wednesday (March 17) with games against Farleigh Dickinson at 9:00 a.m. and Hartford at 1:00 p.m.
