Vikings to Play Wright State in Horizon League Softball Tournament Opener

May 8, 2002

The Cleveland State team will open the 2002 Horizon League Softball Tournament Thursday against host Wright State at the University of Dayton's Stuart Field. The fifth seeded Vikings (19-22-1, 6-6 Horizon League) will take on the fourth-seeded Raiders (11-28, 5-5 HL) at 9 a.m.

The winner of the contest will move on to play the winner of the Illinois-Chicago/Youngstown State game at 2 p.m. in Dayton while the losers of the two games will face each other at 2 p.m. at Wright State. The top-seeded Flames (38-20, 12-2 HL) will battle the eighth-seeded Penguins (10-30, 1-13 HL) at Wright State's softball field at 9 a.m. Thursday.

CSU did not face the Raiders during the regular season after poor playing conditions at Wright State's field forced the cancellation of their two scheduled meetings in late April.

The Vikings will be guided by senior first baseman Jackie Miller (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and centerfielder Tiffany Stocker (Sherrodsville, Ohio/Conotton Valley). Miller finished in the top ten in the conference in hits (45), doubles (9) and RBI (21) while Stocker tallied 45 hits and a Horizon League-best 33 steals.
