Four Honored By NFCA For Academic Success

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State softball players Shalyn Adams, Brittany Bate, Andrea Nagy and Danielle Young have been honored as scholar-athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2007-08 school year. "This is a tremendous honor for these four student-athletes," head coach Angie Nicholson said. "To be honored at the national level for their academic success is something that all student-athletes should aspire to. I am extremely proud of Shalyn, Brittany, Andrea and Danielle for their continued success in the classroom." A finance major and Celina, Ohio native, Adams transferred to CSU last season from the University of Dayton after playing two seasons for the Flyers. Bate, a Gross Point Woods, Mich., native, went 3-3 with a 3.86 earned run average during her freshman campaign. She worked 44.2 innings on the moung, finishing with two complete games and 26 strikeouts. She is a psychology and criminology major. Nagy, who is majoring in health sciences, appeared in 15 games last season and made three starts. The Elyria, Ohio native scored five runs. Young, who is majoring in journalism and professional communications, earned second team All-Horizon League accolades last season after starting all 49 games and hitting .286. She tallied 26 runs, three doubles, four triples, four homeruns and drove in 22 runs. A native of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Young was also 11-for-16 in stolen base attempts. To be eligible for the NFCA Scholar-Athlete Award, individuals must maintain a 3.5 grade point average during the academic year.
