ASHLAND, Ohio - Cleveland State saved its best for last on Saturday (Oct. 14) at the Ashland Relays, winning the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, in the season opener. No team scores were kept in the meet.

Senior Marianne Lionell anchored the winning relay squad that included juniors Lesley Jones and Deanna Raedel and freshman Eileen Bringman. Their time of 3:46.06 edged Hillsdale College's 3:46.98. Lionell, Raedel and Jones each also swam on the 200 free relay team that finished second with sophomore Kristina Nagy in the lineup.

"Our top swimmers gave good performances so I was happy about that," head coach Mike Lehto said. "We had some people out, which hurt us. But it was good in a way because we gave a lot of people a chance to compete."

The Vikings return to action next weekend, hosting Valparaiso at the Busbey Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
