Cleveland, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted a swimming clinic for the Summit County Special Olympics Swim Team last Saturday (Oct. 10) in Busbey Natatorium. The clinic went smoothly, with everyone taking something away from the event, both CSU swimmers and Summit County members. "I thought that the clinic was very fun, I had such a good time helping the team," CSU swimmer Jamie Puls said. "I liked the fact that we all got to work with the same person the whole time and really got to learn a lot about them. Everyone was so positive and excited to learn." During the clinic the members from the Summit County Special Olympics Swim Team interacted with CSU swimmers as they showed them how to improve their skills and techniques in the pool. The main focus was on kicks, strokes and turns, with lessons on proper technique in all categories. "I think that it really brought our team together as well as theirs through the great bonding experiences," Puls said. "I believe that they all learned something beneficial about their swimming and made a new friend. I hope that the Special Olympics team will remember there experience at CSU as a wonderful one and come back again because we had a ton of fun together." The Summit County Special Olympics Swim Team is preparing for the state championships that will be held in December, and will use the knowledge they gained from the clinic last Saturday to improve on their swims at the meet. The CSU women's swimming and diving team is set to have their first dual meet of the season when they travel to Saint Francis (PA). The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be the first meet that the full team will compete in this season.
