Cleveland, Ohio - Cleveland State freshman swimmer, Alice Sommerville was selected as the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week for the period of Oct. 12-18, following her performance this past weekend at Saint Francis in the first dual meet of her collegiate career. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (Oct. 20). "From the time that Alice set foot on campus she has had a great work ethic and intensity," head coach Wally Morton said. "We are excited to have her as part of the team, and her great attitude is starting to pay off." Sommerville recorded first place finishes in back-to-back events, breaking Stokes Pool records in both races. The records came in the 50 free (24.54) and the 100 free (53.21). Her time in the 100 free also ranks her eighth all-time in the CSU record books. She also took home a second place finish in the 100 fly, touching the wall in a time of 58.80, which is the fifth fastest time in program history. The Methven, New Zealand, native takes home her first career weekly award, and the first of the 2009-10 season for the CSU swimming and diving program. The Vikings return to action this Saturday (Oct. 24) when they host Green Bay in the first home meet of the season. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 noon.
