INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping the Cleveland State's women's tennis team to a roadswing sweep of Northern Kentucky and Wright State last weekend, the No. 1 doubles team of Victoria Bensimon and Jana Schober has been tabbed the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week.
This marks the third time this season that Bensimon and Schober have been named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week – becoming the only league duo to pick up three weekly accolades.
"Victoria and Jana played some great doubles last weekend, and they really set the tone for us to clinch the doubles point in both matches," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "Throughout the entire season I have seen improvement in our doubles play, and a large part of that has been from Victoria and Jana who have done a great job playing at the top of the lineup for us."
Last weekend, the Vikings hit the road for the first time in Horizon League play, picking up back-to-back 4-3 victories at Northern Kentucky and Wright State to remain perfect in Horizon League play this season. Entering the week, Cleveland State stands at 10-8 overall this spring and 4-0 against league opponents.
Bensimon and Schober, who have played as Cleveland State's top doubles team for the majority of the spring season, notched a pair of wins against NKU and WSU to help the Vikings secure the crucial doubles point in both matches.
Against the Norse, the duo picked up a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, then cruised to a 6-1 victory at the top spot against the Raiders. Entering this weekend's matches against Oakland and Detroit, Bensimon and Schober own a team-best 8-7 record this spring, including a 2-1 record against league opponents.
Individually, Bensimon is just shy of earning a spot in the top-10 on the CSU Doubles Wins List, owning 52 career doubles wins.
