CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team played at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion for the first time during the 2018-19 season Friday, hosting the first day of the third annual Viking Invitational.
"It was great to get back on the courts today, and I thought we played well at times, but need to work on sustaining that good play throughout matches," head coach Frank Polito said. "We really stepped up our doubles play from the last time we were on the court, and I thought Kate and Klara played some great doubles with a lot of energy – which was great to see. Blanche was definitely our highlight in singles today, as she was able to play a complete match and come away with the victory. Being able to host this fall tournament in our own facility is awesome, and I'm looking forward to what we can do the next two days."
Cleveland State's lone singles win on the day came from Blanche Lenoan, as she picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(6) victory over Bowling Green's Marta Bettinelli.
The Vikings were also able to pick up two doubles wins on the first day of the Viking Invitational, with Kateryna Avram and Klara Mrcela earning a 7-6(6) victory against Akron, and Blanche Lenoan and Sian Payne teaming up for a 6-2 victory against the Zips.
Play will continue at the Viking Invitational with one round of singles and two rounds of doubles tomorrow (Saturday, October 6), beginning at 9:00 a.m.
