Women’s Tennis Heads South For Annual Spring Break Trip

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will head south for its annual Spring Break Trip next week, traveling to Mercer (Sunday, March 10) and Kennesaw State (Wednesday, March 13) for a pair of matches.

Vikings On The Road
Next week's matches at Mercer and Kennesaw State will be the second and third of six straight road contests for the Vikings, as Cleveland State will be away from home for the rest of the month of March. The Vikings are still searching for their first road win of the season, and will have seven more total road matches this year.

Mrcela & Avram Named #HLWTEN Doubles Team Of The Week
Earlier this week, Klara Mrcela and Kateryna Avram were named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week, picking up the first weekly honor for the Vikings this season. Mrcela and Avram went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles last weekend, picking up a 7-5 win over DePaul and a 6-0 win over Notre Dame College, helping the Vikings earn both doubles points. Mrcela and Avram own a team-best 13-8 doubles record this year, including a 6-5 mark this spring.

Vikings With Double-Digit Wins
Entering the annual Spring Break Trip, three Vikings have reached the double-digit win mark for the season, including Kateryna Avram who has a team-best 14-8 singles record this season. Joining Avram with 10+ wins are Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg who both enter the week with 10 singles wins. During dual match play only, Avram and Payne own a team-high seven singles wins.

Spindler On CSU Doubles Wins List
Entering the week, Isabella Spindler ranks ninth on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 57 career doubles victories. With three more doubles wins this season, Spindler would become the ninth Viking all-time with 60+ doubles wins on their career.

Scouting The Bears
Mercer currently stands at 5-7 overall this spring, and has won a trio of 4-3 matches to enter the weekend on a three-match winstreak. The Bears will host Western Carolina on Saturday prior to Sunday's contest against the Vikings.

This will be the first meeting between Mercer and Cleveland State.  

Scouting The Owls
Kennesaw State owns a 1-9 record on the season, with its lone win coming as a 4-2 decision over Murray State. Wednesday's match against the Vikings will be the fourth of an eight-match homestand for the Owls.
