Vikings Open Spring Season With Win Over IPFW
Jan. 20, 2008 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Cleveland State opened dual action with a 5-2 win over IPFW, which puts the Vikings at 1-0 on the season. The Vikings won two of three doubles matches and four of six of singles competition, clinching the match by sophomore Denisa Muntean's No. 5 singles victory. Freshmen Jackie Tabb and Sanda Bjelan won their first collegiate dual match contests, with Tabb winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles over Stacey Lish and Bjelan victorious over Sachi Janek, finishing 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Sophomores Denisa Muntean and Charlotte Gibbons were also winners. Muntean won 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 at No. 5 singles and Gibbons won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. "The bottom half of the lineup was great today," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "The momentum from the doubles win led to a good team victory. We lost to IPFW last season and it was good to beat IPFW today." CSU visits Michigan State Monday, Jan. 21 for a 10:00 a.m. contest. DOUBLES RESULTS SINGLES RESULTS
