Contact: Renee AdamKara Sherwood posted a victory at No. 4 singles and Ellen Folkers and Mathilde Orange notched a victory at No. 3 doubles, but the Cleveland State women's tennis team fell at Bowling Green Friday afternoon, 6-1.
"Overall I thought we competed well today, we just need to do a better job of executing in big point situations," assistant coach Frank Polito said. "We had a lot of fight and competitiveness in all of our matches today which is a very good sign for the rest of the season. What I saw out of the entire team today will definitely carry us a long way this year, especially when we get to the league portion of our schedule."
Sherwood, who notched her second singles win of the spring Friday, earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Bowling Green's Mary Hill. The freshmen duo of Folkers and Orange posted their doubles victory over Hill and Jade Johnson in an 8-6 decision, marking their team-best second doubles win of the spring.
The Falcons were then able to pick up the other five singles points in straight set victories, while also earning 8-4 and 8-5 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively.
Folkers also played in an exhibition singles match for the Vikings, picking up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Johnson.
Cleveland State returns to action next Friday (Feb. 15), as the Vikings close out their six-match roadswing with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Xavier.
