Boardman, Ohio - Cleveland State scored a pair of wins in doubles competition for the doubles point against Youngstown State Sunday (March 6) morning, but could only score one win in the singles matches as CSU dropped a 5-2 match at the Boardman Tennis Center.

Sophomores Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott continued their recent run of success at No. 1 doubles with a strong 8-2 decision over Karen Najbert and Michelle Fuleky. Freshmen Jenn Myers and Christine Vogelgesang sealed the doubles point with a gutsy 8-6 win at No. 2 over Gina Peretti and Heather Hagood.

"It's another great win for us to get the doubles point against them," Galon said. "Jenn and Christine stepped up big for us as well."

"Sarah and I have been able to communicate real well, and that has helped with our doubles play," Ungerott added. "We're on a roll right now, and we want to continue to play strong."

Galon was the only Viking to come away with a win in singles, scoring a tough-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Najbert at No. 1. Myers, Ungerott and Sellers also put up strong showings at No. 2, 3 and 4, but couldn't come away with wins.

"This is a marked improvement over last season," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Our doubles play has been huge for us all season. We already have scored more points than in all of last year.

"This match was promising for us, despite the loss," Etzkin continued. "We will have a good chance, come conference championships, to come away with a win. We're that close."

The Vikings will have a week off before heading to Orlando, Fla. on March 13 for their spring trip.
