CSU Routs Wright State
April 5, 2008 Contact: Jessica Gerich FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team defeated Wright State on Saturday afternoon, winning 7-0. The victory puts the team at 13-5 for the season and 2-1 against Horizon League opponents. After winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, Cleveland State swept the singles competition to win 7-0. Freshmen Melissa Holzinger and Jackie Tabb won their Nos. 1 and 2 matches, respectively. Holziner won 6-3, 6-4 over Christa Ames while Tabb defeated Karina Presti 6-2, 7-6 (1). Tabb was down 5-1 in the second set before coming back to win the match. Senior Jenn Myers and freshman Sanda Bjelan won at Nos. 3 and 4 respectively. Sophomore Charlotte Gibbons defeated Kelly Lybrook 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and sophomore Denisa Muntean won 6-0, 6-1 over Monica Capozziello at No. 6 singles to complete CSU's win. "We definitely wanted to get a big win going into Butler," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Out No. 2 doubles duo played much better than last week, clinching the doubles point for us. In singles, our top half of the lineup had tough matches, but all pulled through. Jackie was down 5-1 in the second set and came back to win the tiebreak and the match."
