CSU Falls To Butler, 4-3
April 6, 2008 Contact: Jessica Gerich INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State women's tennis fell to Butler, 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the squad to 13-6 for the season and 2-2 in the Horizon League. The Vikings could not claim the doubles point, winning one match in doubles competition. Freshmen duo of Melissa Holzinger and Jackie Tabb won at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-3 over Michelle Hawes and Tiffany McLoughlin. Nos. 3 through 5 singles picked up the three points CSU took from Butler. Senior Jenn Myers won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 over Gabriella Bobrowski at No. 3 singles and freshman Sanda Bjelan defeated Becky Jenkins, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Charlotte Gibbons won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Tiffany McLoughlin at No. 5 singles. "Our No. 3 doubles team was able to win, but we fell too far behind at No. 1 and 2 doubles," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We went up 3-2 after our Nos. 3 through 5 won, but unfortunately could not keep the lead. This loss makes this weekend much more important for us preparing for the league championship."
